It became clear today that the SVX isn't going to work for me in my new business ventures when I leave the bank, and I'm gutted. Looks like I'll have to sell the SVX to fund something that is more useful. The SVX is a toy for me, and now it's my only car, the impracticality of it is obvious.. And as I'm leaving a well paid job to start my own, I just can't justify a toy like the SVX. Maybe I'd get away with an older 90 tho

So,.. The question is... What..

First thought is a Range Rover, running costs aren't too much of an issue, but buying budget is... Also considering Discos, Land Cruisers, shoguns, X5's, Allroad etc. definitely not an XC90 tho, bad memories of Volvo ownership.

My requirements are:

Big boot
Possibility of installing high security lockbox
General vehicle security (no point installing a lock bock if the whole car and contents are nicked)
Comfortable, especially on the motorway
4 seats
Automatic
Towing ability
Limited off road ability (the odd field etc)

Looking at a budget of between 24 and 30k

What d'ya all recon?

If security is an issue. Not a defender. I know tents that are harder to get into.

New disco had a good square boot for boxes. Not sure on running costs but pretty smart.

X5 are insane expensive to run. Fuel consumption is dire.

Your worried about budget???????????????

Just buy a well rebuilt 110 on a galvy chassis and blow the rest on coke and strippers!

Lmao. I like that idea!!!

Budget is simply a cash thing. Running costs I'm not so worried about but it's what I can get my hands on quickly to buy. And I don't do finance :)

Sadly a Defender isn't an option for security reasons....

30mpg on a bad day, 35mpg on a good day, 33mpg average

Putting a roof rack on keeps it nearer 31mpg average

Towing around town f**ks it right down to 26mpg

Maintenance wise, not terrible, big service at about 100k, but, otherwise fairly standard.

Good Land Rovers, not too bad off road either :D

I'll have 3.

Disco 3 is looking most favourable. Which engine tho mmmmmm

Disco 3 2.7l is a good engine - also means you can have a manual.

D4 has the option of the 3l but, you can only have it with an auto box.

2.7l?

It's an auto :( but, then, most people like them, its only me who doesn't!

Looks a very good spec, price seems ok too, compared to what i paid for a D3 commercial with 100k on the clock and being a commercial its the base model.
Shame really as i would like some of the extra toys you'll get!

Worth doing some more research though, as, i'm literally basing the above on what I paid for a D3 6 months ago, and its not a comparable model! (assume they'd take 20k too)

Sorry... Yes, it's a 2.7l D3 auto.. and I'm fine with an Auto as it's one less excuse for the wife not driving me home from the pub :)
