Hi, after some pointers. Recently bought the above vehicle. It came with a broken gearbox and wouldn’t run. Turned out to be pin on selector so that was easily remedied. Running issue was due to the in tank pump had some issues in the wires, which my mechanic mate sorted.
He has a REALLY steep slope at his place and the car seriously struggled to get up it when I went to pick it up. My 1.0 Toyota Yaris of the same year gets up it easier!!! Thought maybe MAF sensor but I have had a real good look and can’t seem to locate one . Found a sensor which I took out and cleaned on the metal intake which I later found was air temp. Bit of oil and muck on the intercooler pipes internally. I cleaned these all out. Any pointers please folks?
 
All pipes to and from the intercooler good? Turbo ones sometimes delaminated inside.

Pipe from under inlet manifold to MAP sensor on fuel filter OK?

Plenty of fuel getting to FIP?

#4 injector all good?

Check the air filter while your at it, do the basics first.

Stuck turbo waste gate is another (less likely) option.

Diagnostics might help if anyone nearby has a Nanocom. Think we have a member or two in Spain?
 
They are gutless when cold, so might well struggle up a steep slope.
If it has the metal inlet manifold it does not have a MAF, but it does have a MAP sensor located on the head of the fuel filter and connected to the manifold by a pipe, the spigot in the manifold that the pipe connects to can become blocked and if the sensor is faulty the engine will have no power.
Diagnostics needed.

Thought you had mentioned the fuel filter mate, upon rereading it was the map sensor on the fuel filter you said :oops:This new kitchen had developed into building alterations :eek: Hence my absence, bet you thought I'd headed back to the sun,not much chance for a while.:(

Give them an inch, they'll take a foot, much more than that and you don't have a leg to stand on.

My mother is moving. There's nothing wrong with the house but she's determined to change it. Their minds are so skewed by adverts in magazines and the like they're never satisfied. It helps fuel the economists endless growth myth though.
 
Thanks for the pointers so far. I will start having a look at potential issues next week. Got to paint the rear quarters and doors this weekend.
 
It's more to do with begger all low end torque, my Galloper had less bhp but would climb a 1 in 4 hill at idle.

My TD5 Dizzy 2 has around the same power/torque 300nm I think but it produces peak torque at 1800rpm

The M51 feels like it produces it around 2500-2800, ya have to rev the knackers of it..
Not ideal.

Quite bad when towing.

Not bad for towing with the auto, the torque converter masks the lack of low end torque.
 
2200rpm til mine gets really going. Without boost it will struggle bit. Goes like the clappers when cold, hot i lose a bit of go

Any chance of an engine pic? (Don’t clean it up first ;))
