Ok all comments taken, legally i cant take the car back and get my money back, so im stuck with it, maybe i have made a mistake buying this car but that does'nt help me at the momment, any advice on what the proplem could be i would appreciate and i dont mean the problem is i bought the car i already no that.:(

This is what happens:

After driving the car for roughly 45 minites the engine loses power take your foot of the accelerator the engine ticks over put your foot back on again and all seems to be ok it has not cut out since the first time it happened, you just seem to have your foot on the pedal and all is fine then suddenly you go to accelerate and there is nothing there! Also there seems to be a humming noise coming from the fuel pump located in the rear when the engine/ignition is on, is this normal? Any serious advice/comments would be appreciated, i no if i go to a main dealer im going to be stiched up (not twice in one week) cheers guys, Darren

Take it back and ask them to fix it.

the humming noise is the fuel pump priming. It was Mandy NIO who was last to get the fuel pump replaced on here.

Do a search plenty of stuff on here. what does it run like with the fuel cap off? Some other peeps on here had a blocked fuel vent, reduced pressure in the tank prevents the fuel pump from working at its best

Cheers for that, strange thing is i took it on the motorway and it drove without a proplem although iwas only on it for approx 10 mins it seems to be round town when the proplem occurs! With the fuel pump priming does this constantly stay on excuse my ignorance.

The noise should only occur for around two seconds, then quiet. when you crank over the ignition you will not here the normal running of the pump, its under the rear seat, replacing the filter is straight forward £30ish and pump is around £120ish for the parts.

Again try it on the motorway with the fuel cap off, you can credit CharlesY for that nugget on info

I had a similar experience on my old V8i Discovery. Was fine under light load but when you wanted to accelerate in a hurry it fizzled on me. That turned out to be the fuel pump.

ALso have a look at one of the threads about MAF failure. I don't think this is what you are describing but we don't want to miss anything.

Cheers

Cheers guys again,
the person i bought it from is basically saying sold as seen so f##k off, as for the humming from the fuel pump it is constant, the only thing the other owner said was that he had the thermostate removed because he was told they have overheating problems and what i have told him about the vehicle he says, "it honestly never happened to him"! Bastard

What does he mean stat removed, did he fit the new PRT.

The engine would overcool without stat, whats the temp gauge like?

You could seek advice from the small claims court????

In the unlikely event that he doesnt refund the difference, name and shame the MORON!

still you have reason to involve the trading standards peeps and sue thru the small claims court.

Brief details of Claim

It is sufficient to insert here a brief statement detailing the nature of your claim, for example a short sentence such as : -

* Compensation for Breach of Contract, S14 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) arising from purchase of a ******* which was faulty on delivery OR

* Compensation for Breach of contract and/or misrepresentation arising from the purchase of ******** for which the defendant has liability under S.75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

*If you are unsure as to what legislation applies to your claim please refer to the Trading Standards Consumer Support Pack. Each section ie. goods or services, details the legislation relevant to the subject in issue.

i refer you to Trading Standards Division - Consumer Advice - County Court Support Pack

Try replacing fuel filter first, All this and it may just be a overdue filter change

I picked mine up and drove 4 miles to a fuel station and watched it dripping a pool of ATF on the floor from the paying kiosk, You can imagine that warm sweaty feeling of oh **** what have i done, and as you got no where with the seller, Paid £600 to fix and been fine since

Could be a HT lead breaking down (unsure dont have a pertol)

Yep! Sounds pretty much the same as mine.

I fitted the later design of hoses with the remote thermostat and my Hippo is a lot happier (Hippier?) now. Temperature guage comes up to about the 4 o'clock position and sticks there nicely.
