Hi, the wife and i have recently bought our first Land Rover and it's a 2ltr diesel Freelander with 110k miles. We are getting a grumbling noise which sounds like a n/s/r wheel bearing to me. I've not had chance to look closer at it yet and won't be able to till the weekend. Could anyone tell me of any other possabilites it could be if not the wheel bearing.

do it do it in straite line or when turning ,if pads are reet down thet could do it, also small stones trapped by calipers wiff road tar is er nuffer. . . . .:)

It does it in a straight line and not so much when turning

Hi George K, I did think tyres myself but it definatly something more mechanical, sounds like a bearing somewhere!
All of the tyres are what i call road tyres and not nobbly's, but being new to Land Rovers i wasn't sure what road noise to expect.
 
It just that i had exactly the same symptoms like many other owners with road biased tyres and the noise just disapeared when i swapped all 4.

If its the tyres, the noise should change tone when moving at different type of tarmac with different speeds.
 
I Would Say Its Your Tyres Because I Had The Same Problem With My Freelander When I First Bought It The Noise Was Coming From The Back Wheels So All I Did Was Change The Back Wheels Round To The Front And Front To The Back And Found The Noise Moved To The Front But After About 3 Months The Tyre Treads Leveled Out And The Tyre Noise Is Not So Bad It Is A Common Problem With The Earley Freelanders All I Do Is Change Them Round Every Twelve Months Or So.
 
Did you get this sorted?? I also have a freelander with 110K on the clock and my rear wheel bearing (prob same side) also needs replacing. Will get both done in near future.

:eek: ive had no trouble at all since i changed the wheels round only trouble i have had is the head gasket go on me 2 weeks before we go on holiday to wales and then the sunroof motor dies on me the day we travel to wales oh deep joy :(
