Hey guys,
Occasionally when dropping off a kerb at low speed or going over a speedbump, I notice a grinding noise that I can also feel through the pedals.

Seems like its coming more from the drivers side, but cant be certain.
Could this be something to do with the traction control or something? (The traction control light doesn't come on and the noise only lasts about a second or so).

Edit: The noise sounds faster than the current speed, if that makes any sense.

Sound like it to me . To rest your mind , why not got find some mud on a back road stick a wheel or two in it and give it some throttle if the sound /feeling is the same you will then know what your traction control feels like :)
 
Yep mine does that if I hit a harsh bump when going round a corner the Tc comes on for a second or two.I put it down to knackered springs and shocks. I'll replace them one day honest.

Could this be damaging anything at all? How does the traction control work, Does it just apply brakes to individual wheels? Is this bad on hard surfaces like tarmac?
 
it'll not damage anything...it's conceived to work so, but the light must flicker on serious action, see quote

loss of traction, it operates the ABS modulator in the active braking mode. Depending on the vehicle speed, active
braking is employed for either the brake of the affected wheel or for both brakes on the affected axle, until all four
wheels are driven at approximately the same speed again. During active braking the SLABS ECU also illuminates the
ETC warning lamp, for a minimum of 2 seconds or for the duration that ETC is active. ETC operation is desensitised
during 'hard' cornering.
...by the way do all the ABS related(ABS, TC, HDC) lights work on self test?
 
Mine does it, off a kerb or in the mud, worried me a little bit the first time it happened but all’s well I believe.
 
Yes all the lights work on self test. Thanks for all the extra info!

As long as its not just mine that does it! haha.
