Hjello,
was on Christmas trip in northern Finland and my trusted daily driver Passat -99 4motion left me cold on road side. 600km to home so decided to take a look at local car offering to avoid public transportation. Budget small, car had to have 4 wheel drive so quite limited range of cars available.
But saw this Freelander and it just looked something I had to buy. First checking internet about possible flaws and problems this car might have and after few hours reading just how bad and unreliable it is, I had a 5 minute banana break and went to pay a visit in car dealer ship. I just had to get it.
So, now I'm proud owner Freelander 2.5 V6 -04 with 183000km.
Already read your great forum. Windshield wipers are dodge at best and already found the cure. Switch has some "grease" or whatever that does something when cold so wipers starts working when temp goes up (now they work only with wash). Need to clean that switch. Thanks already for this info.
Webasto doesn't work, also great information about that I found here. I'm certain I'll fix it.
Other than those two, car works. Even windows.
Like how it drives on road. Goes like a train. Doesn't wobble, steering is excellent, nice to sit a bit higher. Eats some petrol, but so did Passat. This takes 10L / 100km it seem, when driving longer distances.
About myself, im 42years, living in Finland. Engineer as occupation (powertrain related stuff). Past cars have been bmw (still have 325i e30 cabrio) and vw. Like fiddling with cars, but unfortunately no place to work with them. Summertime I have cabin, but wintertime need to use paid services. Hopefully my Freelander breaks only on summer.
But I expect nice time before first failure. Also was really nice feature that you can pull 2000kg with this car. That is exactly what my boat+trailer weighs. Only need to pull that like 150km per year.
Happy start for new year to you all!
