Hjello,

was on Christmas trip in northern Finland and my trusted daily driver Passat -99 4motion left me cold on road side. 600km to home so decided to take a look at local car offering to avoid public transportation. Budget small, car had to have 4 wheel drive so quite limited range of cars available.
But saw this Freelander and it just looked something I had to buy. First checking internet about possible flaws and problems this car might have and after few hours reading just how bad and unreliable it is, I had a 5 minute banana break and went to pay a visit in car dealer ship. I just had to get it.
So, now I'm proud owner Freelander 2.5 V6 -04 with 183000km.

Already read your great forum. Windshield wipers are dodge at best and already found the cure. Switch has some "grease" or whatever that does something when cold so wipers starts working when temp goes up (now they work only with wash). Need to clean that switch. Thanks already for this info.
Webasto doesn't work, also great information about that I found here. I'm certain I'll fix it.
Other than those two, car works. Even windows.
Like how it drives on road. Goes like a train. Doesn't wobble, steering is excellent, nice to sit a bit higher. Eats some petrol, but so did Passat. This takes 10L / 100km it seem, when driving longer distances.

About myself, im 42years, living in Finland. Engineer as occupation (powertrain related stuff). Past cars have been bmw (still have 325i e30 cabrio) and vw. Like fiddling with cars, but unfortunately no place to work with them. Summertime I have cabin, but wintertime need to use paid services. Hopefully my Freelander breaks only on summer.
But I expect nice time before first failure. Also was really nice feature that you can pull 2000kg with this car. That is exactly what my boat+trailer weighs. Only need to pull that like 150km per year.

Happy start for new year to you all!

Welcome.
That has got to be the best excuse to buy a LR, to the other half I have heard in a while:)

Enjoy your new car. Did you buy a trailer and tow the passat back or part ex it?

Here is dull dealership photo. No own photos yet. Passat stayed in north in workshop. Nothing was open during christmas. Need to get it up and running and sell it.

Edit. Already found what I think is a bit design flaw. Three knobs that is used for blower, temp and airflow are tucked too low. You cant see them at all in finish winter. I mean at all. Unless there is lighting that is not working on my car.

Hello,
Because of starter problems needed to visit here so why not updating current ststus. Seems 3 years have passet :)
So, car is still running. What i have repaired:
- windshield wiper switch. Just cleaned it, now it works in cold also
- driveshaft support bearings, huge rumble noise when cornering
- front struts? Or what are those that turns the wheels. Completely rusted.
- front driveshafts with joints. This was mistake, i think noise comes rear. Well now front is new
- bracket for fuel tank, was almost gone completely
- rear tail gate window mechanism. One snowy winter night it just went down? Changed the whole thing
- tail gate handle. Twice already. Its piece of **** desing

I think thats it. Im happy that parts are cheap, i thought those would be super expensive but its only in dealership. Online prices are 25% of that
