Hey guys,

Sounds great, I'll pm you my details this evening so we can arrange something.

It has started to overheat slightly on longer journeys, so first job i want to do is flush the cooling system, change thermostat and flush rad (previous owner said the rad is slightly clogged up, hopefully not too badly!) I have one of those kits to test for gas in the coolant and I will check the viscous fan and waterpump etc depending on the result and if the flush works or not after that I will just be giving it a bit of a service as I do with all my new cars

If it's been off road the rad fins may be blocked with mud ect, so it's worth checking that before you flush the rad.

If it's the viscus fan I have a spare one (came with my car and am told is a good one), yours for a few quid, I also have a fan spanner so could do the swap in couple of minuets.

Usercp changed!
That sounds great marksx! I didn't flush in the end, drained tge system and changed the t'stat which wasn't working when i Tested it, flushed a but of water through to push out any air bubbles as something was bubbling away when I started it and hey presto seems fine. Only problems now are the whine and it is revving high but i suspect thats my fault as i took the throttle body apart to reseal the plenum.

I took a long spanner and tried to listen where the noise is from, cant make it out still, i expected to hear the whine through the spanner but couldnt hear it on the tensioner or the alternator, ill have to try it without the belt on for a few seconds see if it goes away

Not sure my fan will fit your V8, thought you had a 300tdi, but it might you never know.

Best post your problem in the right section, you'll get far more info that way.

Yeah i've done a thread in the disco section, hopefuly get some info!

Im not sure to be honest, i'll look up the part codes, i know some of the other ancilleries are engine specific. Thanks for your help though! I'll pm you when I find out if still need a new vicsous :)

Well it wasn't the fan! Changed tensioner and it's much better but still a slight noise from the alernator, I am sure it is this as I have tested every other damn thing! But anyway atleast One issue is sorted, when I got the tensioner off it was well gone!

Hopefully have it ready for some laning soon!

Having had to cancel a 5 day trip greenlaning in Wales, I might be up for something.

Not sure my new vehicle will be up to much off-road, though it's transmission would be perfect. It's 100% electric......

I'm off to Wales in 2 weeks time for 7days with bout 10 of me mates :)
Planning on covering all of the strata Florida and Bala Forrest just cover much of Wales lanes, and play sites as possible really ;)
No doubt will be a messy night or two in Cardiff throughout the week
So no playing for me till get back middle of February.

Hope this isn't rubbing it in too much :p

Max, I never even got a sight of you at Broxhead last month.
I did tag along with Paul though, we spent a good deal of time towing/winching each other out of the mud, good day out

Have fun in Wales mate.

I'm collecting a Nissan Leaf on Thursday. For 95% of my journeys it will cost me next to nothing to run £0 road tax. £0 congestion charge. If I have to pay for 'fuel' it will cost me about £10 to do 400 miles. There are loads of charging stations up and down the country. And at every motorway service station. It wil do realistically about 90 miles on a charge which for 90% or more of the population is enough!

I am undecided at the moment if I will keep my beloved Freelander. Is it worth spending £1000 per year just to tax and insure it for maybe 2000 miles a year or less? I would miss going off road.

Oh, and I would have to pay £100 per year to park it, as the Leaf will be charging on my drive and I only have room for 1 car!

Not looking good for the Freelander.
