Doesn't sound standard... unless the green is a symbol and the red is actually orange!

green = oil pressure?
red = alternator charging?

You might actually be onto something there...
How many batteries do you have? Could be some sort of split charge indication...

Otherwise, while you have got your camera out - take a photo of the keys and any fobs you have on them... more likely is you have some sort of aftermarket alarm/immobiliser fitted

thanks guys ,, keys and fobs

OK your keys are standard issue. The indicator may be a battery condition indicator, coolent level even a tyre pressure indicator, any way it's been added by the previous owner.
The wires from it must lead somewhere, so thats where to start trace the wires, then u will know what it should indicate. :)

Am sure that is a tyre pressure indicator think ive seen one on an MGTF on the MG forum. Hope that helps. You could try asking them?

Yup .. non-standard fitment so all bets are off and no-one can tell you with certainty (unless they've got the identical stuff) what it's for ... down to you to track it.

Might be worth starting with ignition off, press the switch see if anything happens. Ignition on, press etc .. engine running, press switch etc etc ... make sure nothing else, radio, CB, fans etc are running when testing.

It's possible it's a switch for an air locker at one of the diffs, or indeed almost any gadget that can be fitted and needs a switch to make it work!! .. so road-testing might be necessary .. as well as a good check all over for extra spurious wiring and extra 'bits' added ... ;)

Hi guys still stuck with this one i cant see any thing added under the bonnet i have phoned the last owner and he did not have it fitted and i cant see the first owner haveing it fitted as an after market item as that would void his waranty would it not, i have phoned the main dealers and they havent a clue to what the lights are for,ps its not a switch

I can tell you what it is. It's a low temperature warning light and it's a Land Rover option for the 300 series Disco's. I got one on mine.The lights come on when you turn on the ignition as a check. The green light stays on at about 5 degrees, both lights come on at 2 degrees, and red light lights at zero degrees. The sensor is either sticking out through your grill(like mine is) or tucked behind the bumper. Hope this helps.
