There are lots of greenlanes around Oswestry. But if you've got Memory map I can send you a copy of the route (65miles) we did. But before I do I feel I have to warn you it's wet & muddy very rutted (If you're on road biased tires or have a towbar you will get stuck.) very narrow (you will scratch your paintwork very badly.) It is definately not a route to be attempted without someone who knows what they're doing and there are a couple of fords that can get very deep very quickly if it been raining.
Have a look at the photos on the links I posted. If you still want to do it PM me and convince me your upto it and I'll let you have the route.

Bit of a pain trying to find someone to go out with, you could try simply4x4 cost about 30 quid, or join a couple of local landy or 4x4 clubs but that again cost you 30 odd quid and have to wait till they next go out.
Could lurk though all the forums including this all week and may be find a group to go with, bit hit & miss but at least FREE.
Thers a group been formed just for laning in North Wales, very much new and at present invite only, let any 4x4 in and again its free, on advantage is the forum is just for for organising laning trips. Bit of chaos at the last meet too many turned up, but then people just teamed up as they arrived and went off for the day in small groups, great fun one way to meet people.

I've just read it and replied.
maybe he too busy to accept novices/new people, judging by the number of comments about huge groups could be true. I've heard, but not seen with simply4x4, numbers mentioned in the 20 plus.
Biggest i've seen was a lot larger but no simply, however at least all in one group and going the other way, so did not meet anyone else that day which is normal.
so why would he reject an enquiry that asks questions about the legality/insurance of the routes yet welcome a similar enquiry an hour later than doesnt ask questions ?
think about it?

In general and i've been with quite a few "fee paying" groups these include both commercial and some clubs which charge, the routes are checked before hand to see if legal.
Now with one commercial group (not simply) they also take in private tracks with prior permission with the landowner, these not normally legal to the general public. I have organsied one myself, one gets permission from a landowner and agrees a rough time to pass though.
The problem is often people using sat-nav and sometimes maps copy routes down and go back later without permission.
On the question of insurance depends what you mean ?, most insurance will not cover you for damage for taking part in trails, pay days motor sport.
Even some policies will not cover you for organised work parties, remember you still need to be covered for laning on unsurfaced rights of way
