Hello! I live in the Bourne area and would love to have a go at green laning. I'm thinking of getting a 2.2 dci Nissan X-trail as I'm on a tight budget and as my only vehicle it needs to be suitable for my daily commute as well as a little bit of off-roading. Are there any easy tracks in the area passable in an X-trail. I have absolutely no offroading experience at all- a complete novice but very enthusiastic- so I'd be really grateful if somebody could show me the ropes!

Thanks!

Reuben

for X-Trail read gaylander - same problem - low ground clearance and plastic panels.

the doozils have a bad reputation too.

From what I've read it seems that the diesels are okay as long as they have been well looked after/serviced regularly. I need an all-rounder that is going to:
Give a decent mpg and have reasonable on road handling- I commute 60 miles every day,
Be reliable,
Have reasonable insurance- I'm only 22.
Have decent interior space.

I can't think of anything other than an X-trail that fits the bill. Any suggestions?

Oh and I have a budget of about £8000

the lanes near Sawtry are easy, I'll gladly show you round them. they are closed untill April so anytime after then. Tixover is a good place to learn as well. they have easy to hard routes. let me know how the X-trail purchase goes as well.

me old mans got a 04 dci sport(?).The clutch is made of jelly, cant tow for toffee, goes well on the motorway but interior is hideously plasticy. Not been tested offroad other than caravan sites.the 2.2 is reasonable on dezul

Hi 4x4kev yeah i no wat u mean bout the winter closures tis a pain but theres still some around that are open all year, i might be planin a route for sunday comin got a couple a routes in mind but gotta get mi towbar off first, ill keep ya posted.

I'd love to but unfortunately the X-trail I had my eye on has gone, sold an hour before I got there! :( and I don't think my astra will get me very far! So I'll have to keep looking... but thanks for the offer :)
