Not done any off-roading other than a gravel track in the New Forest!
What size towing eye should I fit? Where on the the Freelander should I attach it so I don't rip anything off?!

Does it have a tow bar that should be ok for the rear, not sure about the front as i dont know the freelander very well, do they have a screw in recovery eye it should tell you in the hanbook if you have one lol

I've got a tow bar but it's only the standard type, not sure if we can loop anything round it.
Will see if I can swap the towing ball for one with a drop in pin.
Will check out the front towing eye. Failing that it's drilling or welding something to the sub frame?

Yeah a jate ring fixed on somewhere would be ok as long as its lower than the bumper obviously or it will foul, the standard tow hitch should be ok for the rear thats what most people have, i do have a pin type though.

Was thinking of something like this for the front?

Yeah that will do but add sometning to it coz if you up to your axles in mud you wont reach it, a tow rope would do

Ah good point!
I have a nudge bar to wrap a tow rope round that I could throw to my rescuer when I'm submerged!

Yes you should definately have a cb so you can hear whats goin on around you, they are very cheap and simple to fit.

did you ever go out laning, iam in uckfield east sussex, iam new to website and up from laning in my disco

Use ViewRanger on the iPad - the 1:50K map prices aren't too expensive. Not having the rights maps and going off-piste is a big no no so - if you do you can loose your vehicle (same as no tax or insurance...) so the maps are a small price to pay for piece of mind.....

Uckfield isn't far.
Unfortunately I have to get a new VCU before I do anything off road. Got a blanking plate for the IRD until I've saved up my pennies.
Will try to get the iPad app though & make a mount for my iPad in the Hippo so I can find out where is legal to drive.
I'm also looking for a CB radio. Do you have one in your Disco?

Ive heard from duncan who started this thread so not sure if his freelander is ready yet ?

Not ready yet I'm afraid.
I got the lift kit sorted & my tyres would most likely cope but the VCU isn't playing fair so I'd either be stuck in 2WD or need a new diff/IRD.
Not really the weather to be playing under the car at the moment.
