Hey folks - looking for advice on whether I should pull the trigger and go for this Defender 110, XS.
I am super new to this space, own a range rover but looking for an old, fun & adventure Defender.
Been searching for ages and this one ticks all the boxes, but would love your opinion on the bubbling paint in front window area and chassis, member bolts, etc.
I appreciate this is a 2011 old car some corrosion is natural but how much is too much and also is this worth 24K (with 90K miles)

Nice to have someone who knows that with older landy's [ 2011 not all that old] it what's underneath that is most important not the shiny bits on top.
Just from photos it looks pretty good, a vehicle at the point of needing treatment of that surface rust before it get's a real hold.
Have someone who knows Defenders to physically check it out is best.
Price's for Defenders have been dropping lately, price on the high side I recon.

If I were planning on such an investment I’d have the chassis professionally treated for longevity. The bubbling round the screen is unfortunate but not uncommon. Fortunately, to have that treated and reflashed is straight forward enough. Plus one for taking someone who knows these innately, best investment you could make.
 
As the guys above have said + can really recommend you look at a few more LR's before you buy. This will give you better 'feel' of knowing a good LR from a mediocre LR. It's always worth looking on Car & Classic as there are always a good selection to choose from. Do take someone along who knows LR's and pay for their time and knowledge, it could save you a lot of money. Where are are you in the country?

Looks a bit crusty underneath to me, needs a thorough inspection to see if it is suffering from corrosion and if it needs money spending on it. Might have been a working vehicle, bodywork kept clean but underside a bit neglected. Some old underseal on some areas, might be covering up something. Rear cross members on these models tend to lose their factory paint over time and show slight surface rust - that one has had a splash of rough paint on the outer face, the internal parts might not have been treated and could be costly to replace. Plug the registration number into the link below and see what its MOT history is like, have advisories been dealt with or reappear on the next years test? This might give an indication of how it has been cared for.

Seen the MOT history, all good since 2012 , and no advisories on current MOT . And no holes/cavities apparently but will try find some who can help me inspect.

It's not been 'looked after' very well.
Nor do I like the fact that the 'bits you can see' have been over painted (inc the rust).

The doors are expensive to replace and there are other hidden areas to look for the tin worm.
Do I think it's worth 24K. No I don't, even 12 to 14K is pushing it IMO.

Defenders are not about looking pretty, they need to be solid. My 1994 has a galvanised chassis and bulkhead.
It has a 300tdi engine from the same era and is a lot 'cleaner' underneath mainly because it's all been changed for new.
Your 110 XS has a Ford Puma engine and is at the start of that journey.

This one just looks like it's been living life by some salt water. I personally think this is too much rust for the money, it looks like it's been painted over.. you'll be spending another 6-9k to get it on a new chassis etc dependant on how bad it is.

For that type of money you could find something a lot better

Because its a rusty as hell. Also if you look at the rear crossmember it's been brush painted, that will also be rusty under that.
One thing to consider is the rust out the outside of the chassis is a lot better than the rust on the inside. Granted you could spent a LOT of time treating the outside, inside is a different matter.
Credit to you for looking underneath, the rear crossmember had had a half hearted brush job to fool people who don't look underneath.
Another thing to be aware of is a chassis which has just been sprayed to cover the rust.
Ideally you need proven history of regular treatment or factory finish with some light rust. Not easy but you are on the right track and it's a buyers market at the moment.

I too am in Berkshire but would not travel that far unless it's a very special Land Rover. You may like to call Simon at Motodrome near Henley. He normally has a good selection of tratters available https://moto-drome.com/

One other point, us southerners usually look after our vehicles/spend more on proper maintenance than other areas of the country. If you'd like a set of experienced eyes to view a chosen Landy feel free to p.m. me.
 
Ask them when they recently over sprayed it (you can see the white paint on the rubber seal)
white is an awful colour for hiding sins.
The window frame is reacting so this will have the start of tin worm and galv corrosion all over it.
bulkhead looks like its going in the corners but could be a mark bad picture.

This looks like someone has put lipstick on a pig and trying to get a fool to pay silly money for it.

for £24K you should be getting a very clean defender.

if you go look at it take a magnet and a hammer and about £10-15K
 
I reckon last owner bought it off someone who gave it the as new black chassis wax experience.
Front swivel seal has an issue as it is not wiping the ball clear.

I would say the aa check might be a waste of money.
Put a rough location in your info and someone on here might take a look for you.

There are plenty out there, and if it was a truly goodun it would have sold already.
