So get this, I managed to trade a beaten up Gen7 Celica (With around £1500 of repairs due) to a guy for my dream (The reasonable, achievable dream) car; A Freelander!

I managed to get hold of a 1.8 Petrol Kalahari. 3 Doors, silver, and I love it! The gentleman seemed to know a lot about Land Rovers, which filled me with confidence as he said that this Freelander had X, Y and Z done to the engine to help prevent the "typical Freelander problems", as he called them. I did do a bit of research before the trade, and I can only assume he means the temperamental head gaskets.

Anyway, you will be seeing me post here and there for a few reasons:
1. I am a very passionate photographer and will be looking to capture a great deal of Landy shots!
2. I am never satisfied; I will always have a new venture with this Hippo, stuff like modifications and places to go with it.
3. I like cars. I like the idea of cars. I love the technology involed in how they work. I missed out of the opportunity to learn more about them at college and I am now pursuing knowledge through other means. I want to learn about the ins and outs of how they work. This Freelander, I hope, is going to be the beacon of all of that.

I'd like to start my time here with one fundamental question:
Did I make the right choice going with the petrol version as opposed to the TD4?

So, without further ado, here she is. She's not much, but I hope to have some fun making her better with every step I take.

Hey!

MOT History isn't very conclusive, it's only got the past 2 years and no other receipts etc. It didn't come with much besides two keys and the service book!

As for the TD4 vs Petrol, I have very little knowledge on the benefits and cons of each! I know the TD4 has a more efficient and powerful remap potential and that it should TECHNICALLY be cheaper to run, but at the same time I don't know if anyone has toyed with engine swapping to the 2.5L Petrol etc. It boils down to which would provide the best balance between upgradability and reliability.

And I'm a Canon man. Not because I prefer it, but because my first camera was a gift, a Canon 1200D, so I stuck with Canon to keep the compatibility :) so now I run a Canon 5D mk2 with a selection of Tamron lenses!

Thanks a lot for your help bud

hi andy

myself prefer a nikon, lol , D90 with the vr nikon zoom lenses

here are the pics ref ur mot history , ref the engine i had a Td4 so don't know much about the petrol , guys over in the freelander section will be able to help concerning that , i had a synergy tuning box on mine which transformed the engine

always important with these are the tyres, being the same size , make and wear depth , otherwise it upsets the vcu

assume you've checked the prop is fitted , also good to give it s full service and a full check over , particular as winter is on its way

hope the mot history pics may be of use as reference , goes back to 2006

Well that's a lot more than I have on paper!
Nothing in there about the engine changes though, but to Ben honest, I wouldn't have thought the MOT would've mentioned it

hope it's just useful in the way of info and agree it indeed wouldn't have anything concerning the engine unless there was an emissions issue or a safety problem,
