Quick question. My daughter's been rushed in to hospital some 80 miles away. I've not had chance to get this problem sorted out yet due to the holidays. Would it be ok to use the car still?

Sorry to hear that. Impossible to say for certain, but "probably" OK. If she's 80 miles away, I guess you will be doing a lot of the journey on motorway so you won't be using the clutch much anyway? If it were my daughter, I'd probably risk it. Are you with a recovery organisation just in case?
 
Blackish fluid usually means one of the seals has started to perish, when the clutch was done were any of the hydraulics replaced ?
Thanks for that. My sister doesn't really know, but the pipe coming out of the bellhousing leading to the bleed nipple looks too new to be original, so I think the slave was PROBABLY replaced when the clutch was done.
 
I agree 100%with Nodge on getting OEM Master. After market will give a rubbish feeling clutch for the rest of the life of the car.
 
Got it booked in for Feb 7th, hopefully it will last that long. Told him was was said on here and he said fine but wants to check first to make sure there's nothing else going off. Said it may be a leak or slave cylinder or the master cylinder

Yeah that's what I thought. First time I've used a fully fledged land rover place but he did come across ok. Anyone else used Elite landrovers in deepcar Sheffield?

First rule of fault finding is check for yourself and assume nothing so your mechanic is right. ;)
 
Right so i've been in for a pre booking just to get some idea what's going on, turns out it's the 1st synchromesh that's failing, a new gearbox needed. Is it just a straight swap or are there certain versions that will fit? I forgot to ask him.
 
Here's a suggestion which is worth a try before going to the expense of changing the gearbox.
ATF fluid
I know it sounds stupid and It probably won't work but it might, so has to be worth a try as it worked for me.
I had a TD4 with a crunchy 3rd gear and draining the gearbox oil and refilling with automatic transmission fluid worked a treat. It wasn't perfect afterwards but very near it.
 
Grrr sorted out a gearbox relatively cheap and that's getting sorted next week but on the way home from having the car looked at, we now have a handbrake light on the dashboard. It seems to be holding ok , any ideas as to what that may be?
