The radiator on my project truck is tired and flaky. A new one is needed. The truck's going out to Africa, so needs to be reliable - but the premium LR charge for their radiator is steep. What experiences have people had with non-Land Rover branded radiators? Are there any good ones, any to avoid?

Got one off eBay plastic ends been in my 109 300tdi had no problems never used any water or overheating probs on or off road

Definitely get it recored - it is a much superior radiator.
The plastic and Ali ones have a far shorter life and can’t be recored.
If it was me and I was going off the beaten track I would have a read that could be repaired more easily. Which the metal ones can.
My recore was the same price as a new plastic rad but I got a better rad out of it
I fitted an all metal one to my 200tdi about 5 odd years ago manymany off road days and its still good.
The guy I bought it from is a big britpart seller and he said to avoid the alloy/plastic ones as they were getitng a lot back under warranty.
The original 200/300 ones were all brass/copper so thats what I would be going for.
A few years ago the alloy/plastic rads were a big issues on mercedes cars due to leaks between end caps and the alloy core, we have the exact same issue on the trucks at work.

Mine was about £100 to recore a couple years back
I used these guys, they have a place in cranleigh near Guildford and were ace. They let me out the back to the arch how the recore stuff. Was great.

Used to use I think radicool in medway longtime ago did good job did alloy weliding as well

Yes local garage recommended or best aftermarket you can afford
Delighted to say that I emailed Applied Radiators (http://appliedradiators.co.uk/) and they kindly agreed to do it for me at cost, on the basis that the truck is a charity build. They do it on an exchange basis, so I'm hoping to pick it up in about a week or so, once I've created a means of mounting it on my chassis. Thanks for the advice - will post pics of the new unit when it arrives.
