Hi

About to do some wiring soon on the landy. Ideally im after a selection box of insulated crimp terminals. Has anyone got any experience of good quality ones.

Last couple of boxes ive bought have been terrible, more hasstle than they're worth

If anyone can point me in the right direction of good quality ones it would be great. Thanks

I've got to be honest, but the quality of the smaller insulated crimp terminals (red, blue and yellow) is much of a muchness wherever you get them.
Now, the quality and condition of the crimping pliers can greatly affect the quality of the joint, as is selecting the correct size crimp for the wire in use.
For larger crimps, from say 10mm and upwards there are different qualities, and the best place to get those would be from your local electrical supplies store.

JST (Japan Solderless Terminals) or AMP are about the best, plus you need a decent crimping tool to give you a good connection, and finally you need the right size cable to go in the crimp if you are to make a good connection.

We use a hydraulic hexagonal jaws crimp tool for 10mm cable upwards, coloured sleeve crimps or bootlace ferrules below that.

What do you need and where are you located?

As above really, it's down to the tool as much as anything. I'm the same as Peter - i have a proper hydraulic crimp tool for the larger cable - if you have any large cables you need crimping I'm sure several people with hydraulic tools would be happy to help you out by crimping your cable for you :)

I know what the OP means, it seems to be a bit of a lottery. The last lot I bought were rubbish and it wasn't down to the crimp tool (ratchet type) because it worked fine with the ones I scrounged to finish the job. Unfortunately my mate can't remember where he bought them.

Cheers for the Replies fellas. Ive got a decent ratchet crimper. I bought some crimp connectors off ebay a couple of years ago, and they have been faultless with the tool.

Yet the selection boxes, they are a night mare. Its only to do wiring such as spotlights, radio, work lights etc. Just need a bit a selection to go at really

A quick tip for crimped connections is to dip the cable ends up to the insulation in Vaseline, as that will give as waterproof a joiont as it's possible to get without heat shrink.
