For West Devon, East Cornwall try James Tennant (01837 861478). He's up near Okehampton just off the A30. While he has downsized in the last year he is still trading. I've been using him since about 1994 and he puts up with me.

Hi there, not posted on this forum before. Can anyone recommend a land rover specialist in Kent, near Maidstone or there abouts. Apart from RCV in Paddock Wood. I've got an 04 TD4 Freelander, noises coming from the back when on and off the gas, feels like binding brakes, from what I have read I think the VCU needs replacing ! Plus I need to get a few other things done.
Many Thanks.

bit of a punch up the a20/m20, but can totally recommend Dakar 4x4 nr Swanley. Levels of service and knowledge are really good.

Just thought I'd add my experience with Carrs land rover in Truro.
They delivered an inexpensive part to me F.O.C last week and today I rang up for a radio code for my FL1 and within an hour they had rung me back with the code.
Fantastic service from the parts department.

Have just bought a few bits from Matford Land Rover (main dealer) in Exeter after seeing their shop on eBay with a couple of bits I wanted. There was another part I'd found on Shop 4 Auto Parts (cheapest I could find for genuine part) and Matford undercut the price on that and delivered (free postage) the whole lot the following day.

Hi all does anyone have a recommendation of a localish garage to me being North Lincs & close to the Humber Bridge ? New to me Freelander 2 at 97K I'm sure it could do with a good looking over. I've looked online & found Famous 4 in Louth, Clasp 4x4 Scunthorpe, Jagutech in Hull and JAS in Everingham York.

Any thoughts on any of these or other localish recommendations much appreciated

Born in Yorkshire and proud of it.

Land Rover Services in Hull have a decent reputation.

Location:Bradford
Hi everyone,
Got a problematic 1.8 Freelander 1 (I know) which had head gasket done and new clutch.
Now I have a massive oil leak which appears to be from the crankshaft seal, if that is it I suspect gearbox needs removing again.

Can somebody recommend me a mechanic or garage around Bradford area please? All two mechanics I know told me to scrap it as they won't touch that "piece of junk" but I'm too deep for that unfortunately. I guess it requires extra patience.

Thanks,
Paul

Don't bother with Land Rover Espania. I've written several times asking for parts, etc, to more than one Agent, translated into Spanish too, but never had a reply.
So it's just as well I can do most things myself.
I would be in the Poo if not for Ebay.

That's probably true for all non-UK LR dealerships. The dealerships here are not interested in Freelander (F1). They will usually provide a quote though that is prohibitively high and time consuming to arrive from the UK for anyone to take them up on their offers.

When a tyre monkey striped my locking nut key, I got myself some extra non-locking nuts and went along to the dealership to get them to use their masters remove the old locking nuts. "No sorry we don't hold these for Freelander any more". The guy actually said they concentrate of the high value vehicles. I think he was quite embarrassed because he had me drive the car into the workshop and he got the nuts off with a reversed internal thread cap jobbie and then didn't even charge me for doing it.

I found http://www.monarchgarage.co.uk/ in Glasgow when my FL2 needed a load of work. In one hit they did a wheel bearing, rear diff oil seal, drop links, replaced handbrake cables, a major service and an MOT for just over a grand. I thought it a fair price for a good job well done.

Update all, in the end i went to JAS Land Rovers they are in Everingham, York YO42 4LH 01759 487500 , they are Joe & Steph, based in a workshop essentially on Joe's dads farm.

I Spoke with Steph on the phone initially to get a price for the 'B' service i wanted as the car doesnt have great history after its time as a fleet vehicle, Steph was great to chat over things with and agree on the work to be done, including a reduction in cost as i had only recently changed the cabin pollution filter myself. On the day all went well and i sat in the pleasant office / waiting area with Coffee topped up when i wanted it (it was logistically easier for me to wait) Steph a fully qualified LR mechanic in her own right, now primarily looks after the office and parts ordering etc as they have added a further mechanic, but its great to chat with a "front of house person" who actually knows about the cars (and she gets stuck in when they are really busy, so keeping her hand in so to speak) the time passed quickly, Joe completed the service exactly as 1 would expect so all good there, he found a couple of oil leaks that i need to keep an eye on as I didn't want the work done there and then and so all in all if any members are looking for nice people that know what they are doing we can add JAS to the list of good places to go
