Disco sailed thru its MOT today with no advisories - so I wonder how long it will be before something breaks and buggers up my day

and took possession of my new Hawkeye diagnostic tool, by the time I got home from work too late to plug it in.

Not sure how it works or what it can do yet but if your close by to Glasgow/Lanarkshire and own a Discovery 2 in need of reading fault codes give me a shout, even better if you can work the thing.

Hi BG, ref HawkEye the first thing I did was to connect the unit, go into TD5 and then EMS (the engine ecu) and then select live data. Start the engine and then go through the 52 different elements that are listed.

One key component is the airflow - this should show about 50-60kpa at tickover going into the 3 to 4 hundreds at 3000rpm. If no readings your MAF is cooked and you need a replacement for the engine to run correctly and to full potential.

PS If you car has A:c and the front electric fan is running all the time, this indicates an overheat at some time in the past - I had this and was worried the fan would burn out. On HawkEye there is an option to remove this fault and reset it, so that it only comes on when it should, much quieter.
 
Forgive for being a bit slow here but this "hawk eye" is a diagnostic tool that you plug into your disco and it will tell you if you have any faults etc?
Is it a good idea to have one ? I get the garage to do anywork on my discovery as to be honest I cant be bothered to get my mits dirty these days so maybe I do not need one ?

Reason I bought it was that I was fed up with garages diagnosing the fault and charging for not only the repair but to firstly read the fault code but secondly to clear the fault code
Had a problem recently with the air suspension cost

To read fault with Autologic £35

New height sensor £31

To fit sensor and clear fault £54

Total bill £120

Hoping the unit will pay for itself and when I sell the car can sell the unit on.

May not be able to fix all faults found but at least can now find the problem and have a go, dont mind getting my hands dirty and also lets face it cost of living ain't getting any cheaper and managed to score a deal with the Hawkeye

They should send it within a few hours. I had trouble getting mine, phoned Bearmach at HQ who then rattled the Omnitec people. It turned out they hadn't received it. To their credit they sent it straight away.

The following day I got a delivery failure for the e mail I sent asking for it!:doh:

I got mine simply so I could tell what was going on with the vehicle. I don't do all the work myself but if I have a fault and can read it, I can then decide where to go from there.

Garages are making a mint from code reading. I know one lr specialist who charges £30 plus VAT to plug his computer into your vehicle. To his credit though he does give you an hour of his time. He'll take the vehicle out for a spin and have it reading live data etc. His justification was that he's trying to recoup the investment in his machine.

If you get a fault code you don't undestand you can either ask Bearmach or put it on here and get it discussed.
 
Got my code with the hour but had to go to work so wont have time to play with it till the weekend, who know may even have a shot of Hawkeye...boom boom
