Hi all I'm aaron I'm new here

Brought myself a defender 90 for a restoration project!

Well seeing it was a 1992 I thought it wouldn't be that bad for rot.....WRONG!!!
This thing had an mot 5 months ago!
Take a look at the pics.

My question is could I weld it or should I replace the chassis?

What u guys think!!

Welcome, how long are you planning to keep it? Personally i would buy a galvanised chassis, saves rust issues in the long run. Thats what im going to do to mine :)

The plan was to keep for a long time. The misses wants it to tow a horse box and I want it to off road:D

I'd go for a galv chassis. Once you've invested the time and money welding that up, you'd be a good way towards the cost of a new chassis.

Mines same year and not that bad, I'd imagine you'd come across more problems down the line staying with the same chassis, the rot will be everywhere

Agreed, might as well as save yourself a lot of bother and just fit a new chassis.
Initial cost will be higher (although maybe not much more if you had to get someone to do the welding for you but the chassis swop was going to be DIY) and while you are doing it you will find all sorts of other things that need doing at the same time (you will never have such good access again) but long term you will reap the rewards.
In addition, if you decided to sell in the future a recent galv chassis is going to be a big selling point.

Im definitely no eggspurt, but that looks fooked, if your keeping it long term, Id be looking at a galvanized chassis;;));)

I would go galv chassis, from the looks of your pics you have stripped the bulk of the body off anyway so galv would solve all rot problems

New chassis+ find and shoot the man who gave it an mot

I know it's shocking what they let pass! This was the selling point for me knowing it had a recent mot. Glad it didn't cost to much money!

I think you've made my mind up new chassis!
Right what's the best price out there?

I've seen richardsons and marsland around 1500 is this the sort of price I'm looking at?

They're the main (only?) two. I hear there can be some lead time on delivery, so i'd get an order in quickish. I know there's various options on additions you can have to the chassis before they galve it, i'm sure some people here will chip in stuff to consider

I'm building mine on a marslands one, you mention towing with yours?, you'll need an adapter for the tow bar if buying a marslands one,.
I wish they'd have told me that first.
Other than that it looks very well made
