Ok, having decided the reason my P38 diesel won't start is because the diesel pump is not matched to the ecu, I am gonna fire up my T2 Testbook ! This is gonna get interesting....got the whole kit and kaboodle but never used it yet!!!!

The injector pump is not coded in any way,the engine ecu has a coded link with the BECM which is reset with Testbook when necessary. But not after a pump change.

Hmmm.... bought this testbook system off ebay a while ago, had a computer geek friend set up the head unit but got shedloads of cables, software, printer, all on a trolley, cost a bloody fortune and not used it yet. Interesting arron that the pump doesn't need syncing to the ecu...that's originally what I thought.

when you change diesel injector pump, don't you need it locking in place and fitting for it to work correctly? (thats what i originally meant)

you just need a pump removal tool to hold the sprocket and chain in place when you take the pump off and a flywheel locking pin, fit the new pump then use a dial gauge to set the lift. no probs just a straight swap and go, they do take some cranking to bleed all the air after though.
