Evening All.

New to all this, however I am just about to start on a re build on a 1986 2.5 TD Defender 90. Got loads of ideas and been reading many interesting and useful threads on here which will be very handy. One thread in particular this morning which got me out of the house and into my garage to make a start However, I have searched high and low for my key to get her started.......and guess what?!? Ive misplaced the key!!

Total schoolboy error, put the key in somewhere "safe" but it seems to be that safe, that I can't find or remember where I put the damn thing.

My question to you guys is, is it a simple ignition barrel change? one I could get off ebay for circa 30 quid which would be a simple remove and replace, or am I looking at something more expensive and time consuming?

Cheers Guys.

Cant you go to Landrover with the chassis nr and order a new key?

Assuming its the original ignition barrel.

simple swap for new one. or just use a similar looking key. they're so badly made and cut a bloody teaspoon will start half of em.

Mine fits my mates and his fits mine, handy in a situation like this :p

I done the same thing and just changed the ignition barrel. 2 shear bolts to remove it and just swap the wires into the new one... Easy-ish!

Good plan to tell a complete new member with no other posts how to remove the igntion barrel and get a new one fitted in to get a 90 running..

Or is it just me? ;)

My 3 step guide:

1. Get yourself a nice Magnum ice lolly.
2. Eat it.
3. Retain lolly stick and use as Landy key.

Ha ha Jonsey87! I might do that if I need to get her moved slightly from the garage but deffo ordering from Craddock, for what they cost, it's definitely worth replacing the full unit.

Thanks for the positive feedback people.
