soooo I sold my 90 last year to my mate and now I’m thinking I need another! Just want an everyday car to drive to my dirty job and for it not to break down......and need a pc to fix it.....so a bloke at work had got a J reg 200 county that got put in his dads barn like 2yr ago because he was offered another td5 by a friend really cheap ....... so I’m going to go look at it this week if I can get over there and I’m just a bit worried because it’s really ****ty and standard. Don’t mind the standard because I know it hasn’t been used off-roading etc....but it’s on 195k...he didn’t really look after it and basically used to drive it until something went wrong with it. Soooo I’m a little concerned it may have hidden rust or just worn out parts. So it has no mot as he don’t use it but he did take it for a drive the other day round the field... he kinda wants around 2k for it.... hmmmmmmmmmm!!

At J plate it should be a 200. H plates can be either. There is a chance it could be a late regestration and even be a 19j engine so get to know what each type looks like before you go see.
 
OH and take a hammer,big screwdriver, goggles [ to keep rust/sh1t from going in your eye as you check for rot ] If the owner will not allow this walk away.Or get it very cheap.
 
If it starts straight away its a proper 200, look for rust and rot and dont worry about the rest.
Alloy rocker cover = 200. pressed tin rocker cover = 19j = get your spanners and breakdown insurance out!
 
19J's also had an alloy rocker cover,just like a series Lynall. I think you are mistaking the head which was not alloy on a 19j
 
Thanks guys I’ll try go tomorrow and I’ll get a pic of the engine...I work with the guy he’s pretty straight but tbh I don’t think he reallly has a clue as it was just a car to him...I know it’s had a new cross member tho welded in...but ill post some pics soon as I get some and hear some views before I offer him anything
 
I just love the 200Tdi's, my 90 is on 170k miles, just nicely run in. Just sold a 200 Tdi disco with 300k miles on it, a few top end oil leaks (very slight) and still pulled like a train.

Now you mention it I actually cant remember what my old 2.0 diesel had as a rocker cover!
Dammit found a pic and you are of course right.

That’s the only bit of rust really...this side and the other plus a small bit under window in the normal place
