Hi All,
It been sometime since been on the site. Any way this weekend had the RR out for a drive only got a short distance went there was a crack then lost all drive. Pulled up quickly had a look under it no bits hang down so tried putting in drive but just got a noise that sounded like a disconnected driveshaft but there isn't one. When I put it to P you hear what I can only describe as rubber being twisted which lasts for about 15 secs. Does anyone know if this is the gearbox failed or is it the TQ I haven't been able to look at it as have had to return to work. There was no failure notice on the dash although it does bring up select neutral now and again. Hope you can help its on a 2004 L322 vogue se. Cheers Rod

A quick check under at props first, Ok they don’t drop off but the CVs on the props have been known to spin on the splines. Also worth checking you have had this upgrade done.

Put it in gear and see if anything is spinning underneath. ( use a mirror or video it on a selfie stick)
If not then yes it’s time to explore the transfer box and gearbox.
Have you got any diagnostics you can plug in, it may have a fault logged.

Although I don’t know what to say about your putting in P description.

Would assume its a td6 as you put Gm 5 box, they are not known for there strength there have been loads of threads on here about them unfortunately.
do you know any history on the box has i had oil change whats the mileage.
Have a search of threads by Bemble he is the gearbox god.

They are such a weak gearbox I don't think he gets involved with them.

I concur with marjon. Could be a propshaft or a driveshaft issue, particularly if the vehicle missed the Q041 Service Action. If it is, the output shaft will be rotating when Park is selected and the parking pawl will ratchet over the teeth, making a noise.

Hi Brian thanks for your comments the RR has only done 81k as when I bought it it had been in storage for 3 years so I would think it has never had an oil service on the gearbox.

Hi Phil, thank you for sending that info I will take a look once am back home. I think this RR would not have had the Q041 done to it as it was in storage for sometime before I got it. I will let you know how I get on once I check it out. Thanks Rod
