So about 2 months ago I introduced myself on here, having bought a Black 2003 V6 FL1. I did it all wrong. Bought the car figuring "how bad can it be" with no SH, high mileage and no idea on its overall state. and then did a load of reading. And then realised how bad it could be. I fixed some things but a compression test answered the misfire on the ECU and I figured things were bad. Had decided it was time to think about something else, but the problem was I loved the concept and everything about the FL1.

Then randomly encountered a... Black 2004 V6 FL1. Low mileage(40k), near perfect SH, 4 matching tyres! This time I road tested it properly, did the reversing test on the VCU etc. all seems good. No lights on the dash. The only problems that I am aware of are the rear passenger window regulator is gone so it's wedged about half way open and the sunroof is making the telltale sounds of being on the way out. Other than that, it seems in great order. No fishbowl!

Decided to go for it. Managed to PX the old one against it and so after everything I t's cost me around 2.5k which I think (hope?) is pretty good. So yes, I am now a two time freelander owner!

Yep Ive always liked the sport, with the face lift.....whats a CI reg and whys it on it?

any pics of the interior...
 
Yep....When I was looking I really liked the look of the sport, but they were quite expensive 5 years ago.......Just noticed its an auto too......
 
That's the exact model I'll go for if I stick with the Freelander.

What are the chances of you not sticking with a FL?

For the money I paid it feels like a *lot* of car. The front end is very eye catching. Parking sensors were an unexpected nicety too (pointless though when you have a tow bar :p )

I'll still have a Land Rover. But I really want a Disco 3.
I like the Freelander but the Disco has much more room and is a better tow vehicle.
 
Ah, fair do's. You mean you want a "real" Land Rover!

I consider the Freelander a "real" Land Rover ;).
There's nothing wrong with them at all. I would just find the larger D3 more useful.
I'm not convinced by its off road prowess over the Freelander though. I saw on TV last week a D3 being towed out of a muddy field by a tractor but a Freelander following without any help!! That's a bit worrying :confused:

Did you happen to notice what boots the D3 was wearing compared with Freelander? I wonder if the D3 owner knew how to use the 'Dial-a-ride' system. That all said I know my Freelander has good traction in the mud too :D
 
The Disco would be more than capable getting out of a bit of mud...whoever was driving it probably felt it slide a tad......then their bowels opened up and they phoned for recovery. ....A decent driver would have easily got out of that bit of mud in a fiat panda 4x4...never mind all the gadgets the disco has....

The auto only V6 is a bad thing. The KV6 is a nice modern free revving engine. Sadly the torque curve isn't really suited to auto transmission. It spoils the V6 Freelander. One day I'll work out a manual box conversion for the V6.

To be fair to the D3. The driver must have been clueless. The tractor was pulling the D3 left but the D3 driver was turning the steering to the right :doh:. The D3 looked to have road biased tyres on 18 or 19 inch rims.
The Freelander was just following without an issue.
