Afternoon I'm looking at putting new glowplugs in my 300 TDI ..I've tested them all dead .
Thing is they were never wired up and I can't find any wire or a relay ..
What relay ,size wire and fuses will I need I'm going to rig it to a switch instead of ignition barrel ..any help out there

Use NGK glow plugs.
The TDI engines will mostly start without glow plugs so if you don't live in the arctic I wouldn't bother

Thanks but it really struggles when it's cold to fire

Check your battery output.
It's very rare the TDI really needs a glow plug given correct power to the starter

The relay normally sits on the bulhead in the engine bay roughly in the middle.
There is a 'feed' from the main fuse box and a black and yellow wire from the relay to the glowplugs that are wired in series (4-3-2-1),

The power is from the AUX circuit and a separate signalling wire lights the lamp in the instrument cluster.

[Note: probably not the best glowplugs with this kit, Bosch or NGK are better and will likely last longer, but cost a lot more]

200 and 300 will start without plugs, but both start easier when cold with functioning plugs.
I had one 300 that needed twin batteries to get the cranking speed up.

Not an answer to your question, but if you are going to remove the glowplugs, they will be easier to remove from a hot engine.
