Please can you answer some questions regarding Glowplugs.........

1. Rave states the high pressure fuel lines need to be removed between the FIP & injectors using a special tool LRT-12-117, is it necessary to remove these?

2. All advice on here states "DO NOT FIT CHEAP GLOWPLUGS", what price should I pay for each plug to avoid the cheep ones?

3. What's a good make to get and where from?

No need to remove injector pipes to replace glow plugs. Remove inlet manifold. 8mm 1/4 drive socket, ratchet, extension and wobbler. 3/8 drive 12mm deep socket ratchet extension and wobbler. Bit of grease to hold nuts in 8mm socket when replacing them. Make sure new plugs are started correctly before trying to tighten them.

when i do mine i have never had to take the high pressure lines off i always do them in placenumber 1 is a bit awkward but can be done and the nes i normally go for are delphi and pay about £40 a set

Universal joint. There is another definition which i won't go into.

as the guys above said, no need to remove everything.

In any case the special tool is a fancy open spanner and is only wanted at the FIP. Its not needed at injector end at all. And if you are a bit cute about the order you take teh FIP end pipes off and on you wont need it there either.

2 out of the 6 plugs were duff, I assume this would be enough to cause great difficulty in starting the engine with these sub zero temperatures????

Update:

Six new Delphi glowplugs fitted, car started 1st turn of the key with temp at -3 degrees!!

Hi all

had the same problem last week 6 new NGK plugs started first turn of the key also replace the very brittle fuel return pipes.

great to be able to get around in the snow with no worries the rest of the island is stuck in half an inch of snow, no buses and all the schools closed almost got the roads to my self only about 10,000 other new range rover sports charging around like well you know what there like.
