My disco 200tdi has just started to show a dull glowing battery light at tickover. Meter shows 13.5v. When reved to 2000rpm the light gets brighter, and seems to go bright and dark in unison with rpm. Meter reading is 14.2v at 2000rpm.
Got a long run tomorrow with an early start, and bearing in mind its sunday, am i liable to have any more problems other than an agravating light flashing all the way.
Everything appears ok. Its left me stumped. Checked connections etc, charging ok, recent battery. Am i going to wake up to a flat battery possibly.

Cheers Chaps.

I would put your battery on charge over night just in case.

Nothing worse than a flat battery... been there to many time just lately with the cold weather.

Its dirty, but looks like Magnet Marrelli through lucas.

Ill put the battery on charge overnight and take a spare charged one as well.
Cheers guys.

sometimes on lucas ACR type alts the center brush can 'drill' through the slipring, the only warning you get is erratic warning light behaviour then it goes out and stays out. you then think yer int got a problem, but the only reason its gone out is because it can no longer earth through the alt.

if you have one of these you be wise to check the state of it before yer set orf

Hi mate, had the whole thing out this aft. Brushes were in good order as were the rings. The unit spun up ok with no rough feeling.
Did a search of previous threads and there was mention of faulty diodes and discharging. Think i`ll change the alt shortly, but tomorrows trip is a long standing arrangement i cant dip out of so i just want to cover all avenues.

I would put my money on your battery going down and not holding the charge.

As you are going away it's not to late to try another battery and see if the light goes out, I bet it will.

Well, 450 mile round trip to lincoln and no probs at all. Didnt leave on charge overnight as i fell asleep and forgot. Mad panic in the morning at 04.30 it metered at just under 13v. Started when required, ran all the electrics; lights, windows, wipers without a go slow.
One thing i did notice was that on dip the beam is a bit pants. Full beam is fine. Dont know if its a symptom of the battery light or not. Difficult to judge against what i`m used to; bimbling along on island roads at 40-50 is a lot different to charging up the A34 at 70 with no road lighting.
In other words are disco lights generally a bit shonky and would different bulbs help.
Overall the car was spot on. Hit 80 a few times on the m1 and it pulled like a train. Had my doubts about its ability to keep up with traffic at motorway speeds, but not a blip. Didnt use an excessive amount of fuel either. Probably would have saved if i`d chugged along at 65, but i hate doing that.
Only had the car a few months but, what a buy. After 450 miles with minimal stops it was comfort all the way.:)
