hi all ive changed the glow plugs today doesent seem to be any better turn the key a couple of times to warm them up it starts strait away is it possible to adjust the glow plug timer and were is it please

what makes you think its the glow plugs?you sure its not a fueling problem, blocked filter, fuel leak off pipes leaking, weak in-tank fuel pump.have you tested your plugs?the timer relay could also be at fault, was it starting ok before you changed the plugs for the cheap ones?

2 turns of the key for 2 pre heats and it starts says glowplugs to me. Yes it could be a lot of other things, there have been several threads on the same issue. Cheap glow plugs don't do the job. It's never good trouble shooting practice to look for another fault when you have a known issue, i.e. crap glow plugs.

100% agree with what you say data, just talkin from my own experience of cycling glow plugs 2 times, mine turned out to be a weak in tank fuel pump.

can any one tell me where the heater plug/timer relay is please and is it possible to adjust the timer or can it be tested
brian

The plug timer relay is in the ECU box behind the battery. Check it for loose burnt connections. Clip a volt meter to one of the plug terminals with the negative lead to earth. When you turn ignition on there should be 12 volts whilst glow lamp is illuminated. To check for failed plugs disconnect wire from terminal there should be continuity from terminal to earth. Rave is freely available do a search.

Anyone get to the bottom of this?

Mine has always taken 2 pre-heats, new plugs (NGK) no difference, new fuel filter, no difference, no bubbles in clear fuel line check done, all fine.

It has a terrible hot start problem as well, this got better with the new fuel filter (less cranks, still more than it should be) now sadly it is back to original (terrible) after I changed a cracked injector pipe.

Also when cold it is seriously lumpy idle, not sure if that is relevant. Maybe pump timing/stretched chain?

How long are the glow lamps on for? Check the glow relay for bad connections and burning.

All sorts of reasons for 2 cycles required but I suspect mainly pump timing not optimal. Lumpy at idle could be all sorts without some diagnostic gear. Quick wins would be filters, hoses, flush intercooler. MAP, maybe?
