Hi All
I have a disco 1 1998 and its doing strange things.
Today the back door would NOT open not on the fob or the key, i could unlock it with either but the door would not open,, drove home thinking i would be in for a difficult job and the door was fine ,,,duhh???
Last week it wouldnt turn off i could take 5the key out and it would still be running,,it hasnt done it since.. the front offside headlight is dimmer than the other and some times the indicators keep flashing after i have locked it and i have to unlock and lock again before they will stop.I am thinking bad earth ,,but wouldn't know where to start looking.
Any tips or ideas would be greatly welcomed..
Thanks ..

Start by checking the ignition switch - check the wires for integrity, and remove any 'Scotchloks', they're nasty dangerous things ...

Find yourself a copy of Rave for your vehicle, and have a search on here -

You are not the first one to have these problems, but take it slow until you're used to the vehicle and what the previous owner/idiot has done ...

Good luck ...

Believe it or not u can only lock/unlock with the fob/key therefore the door will not open, u have to pull or lift a handle to open a door. :D

Check your battery would be my suggestion!

My battery tested okay but the car had a few electric related issues, changed the batt and all good now!

(prior to the battery had checked earring points, alt, fob, all sorts but new battery meant disco behaving like new car!

Only had 1 owner apart from me and he was a doctor but dont know if he was an idiot or not,, will look for any joints in wires and will also look at the rave manual..
Thanks

Back door easy, take the badge off and apply wd40 to springs/mechanism. You'll find it won't open intermittently (eventually failing altogether) until you've done this.

The actuators in the doors get 'sticky' after a while - I've dribbled, (technical term), light oil - not WD - down the rod and it seems to have helped ...

Take the door card off, carefully pull back the plastic, you'll see the actuator - while your there greasing the pivots helps too ... :D

Now that the door will open ( i didnt fix it ) it just fixed its self.. I can now do as you suggest and see if it helps..
Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Dippypud i will pinch some of her sewing machine oil, and use the highly technical "dribbling method " you suggested, and now that the door will open again i can remove the door card to access the inner workings of the door and give it all a good lubing ( love a good lube )
Thanks for the help will get it sorted this weekend ( i hope ):banana:
