I've done a bit of a Google on this, and read a few mixed reports, but since I'm wanting to do this, I thought this could be a Q&A (my Q's and others A's I hope ;) ) thread and I'll post my results of what happens.

Basically I'd like to get a stereo that allows me to connect my iPhone to play music from. Ideally this would be via Bluetooth, but USB if not. Music is the main driver, but if it would double up for answering calls all the better.

I am in no way fussed about keeping the stock look of the current stereo or the steering wheel controls, so I'm quite happy for these to go. And I'm also not fussed about keeping the CD ability either.

As I understand it there are maybe two stock stereo setups, I've had a look and I think mine must have the top spec one. It looks like this:

Is there a simple way to remove the current head unit and plug in another that will work with the speakers already in the vehicle?

I've read that this isn't that easy, but I don't know for sure.

Failing that, is there anyway to remove the CD changer with a bluetooth adapter and simply use the CD channel part of the current head unit to simply play music via bluetooth instead?

Not overly difficult, but some have reported a hum due to wiring issues and the individual door amps.

There was a member on here who found a solution using a wiring kit of some description....I think his handle was Clarkie130 or something like that.....

I've installed a GROM USB 2plus with the bluetooth receiver option.

Connects in to and replaces the CD changer plug at the back of the head unit.

It plays usb stick and which is overridden when you play via the bluetooth connection or receive a phone call.

No need to touch the headunit at all except to plug the unit in

Do you have a link or anything? Thanks.
