Problem number 2 (of many no doubt!) with my new purchase....
Previous owner lost the locking wheel nut key so I now can't get the tyres off. Anyone know of a 'easy' way to bodge getting the old locking wheel nuts out without damaging the alloy?
If it's got the RRC locking nuts. The ones with the holes in the flange. as opposed to the discovery ones with the grooves on the side. Then hammer a 20mm socket (not a 6sided one) and they'll come off no problem at all. getting the socket off to do the next one is a bit of a pain though I've done this 3 times now when fitting me mudtyres before going laning. If it's got the grooves on then cut a 4mm drill bit down and locate it in a groove before hammering the socket on.
However as others say, there are only a few types (they have a letter on them) and you can order them for a few £. My local independant keeps a bag of them for removing wheels..
Ta all for the advice I'll go have a look for a letter later when I get home and see how expensive that route it before I resort to the socket and hammer, cheers Reds!
With mine I just carefully got a angle grinder and cut a slit across them all then an old wheel nut and welded flat peice of metal to it. It was like a massive Flat headed screw driver! Was fiddly though!
