So my FL2 currently has 19" wheels and I'm thinking of getting some AT tyres for a bit off road adventures.

Would I be better swapping the wheel to 17", something to do with better tyre wall strength and grip.

Yes, probably
19” are going to be fairly low profile.

When you say ‘off road’, what do you mean?

It’s a balance of cost and use.
If you are going to do lots, it makes sense to get better sized wheels and AT tyres.
If you are just going to run the odd (easy-ish) green lane, then I wouldn’t worry too much.

I run Geolanders on my F1 with stock 17” rims. A good mix I think. Ample grip for my need, and not too bad £££-wise.

More sidewall means there is more flex in the tyre to mould to the uneven surface off road. The taller sidewall will also mean the rim is less vulnerable. And in rocky driving if you pinch the tyre the bigger sidewall is less likely to rupture and tear due to having more movement.

You’ll also be able to run lower pressures with a taller sidewall. You will also likely find more choice and tyre options in the 17” size.
