Long time no posts, but you all came up trumps the last time I needed help so here goes...

I have recently come into enough cash (cancer insurance payout) to be able to buy a nice 'new' car. I currently have a 98 Freelander XEi which I love dearly despite the bad press. With the family now burgeoning I want to get something with 7 seats (pre-requisite). I know there are practical 7 seater MPVs but they rarely have any bootspace with 7 seats up, and I need to tow (infrequently) and go offroad (albeit fairly sedately at present). I have already tried the Land Cruiser and the Volvo XC90 but am about to test drive the Discovery 3. Any views on suitability/spec/cost/comfort/issues etc surrounding the Disco 3??? Where do you guys see it as a practical machine for a family who only want to own 1 car, do no school run/shopping trips, commute by cycle and use park and ride to go into the city centre? We want a catch-all leisure vehicle that will take us wherever we want to go, and have decided we would like to do it in style for once!!

It is potentially a large amount of cash to put into the car and I don't want to make a mistake that depreciation won't let me forget!!

Thanks

AJ

Well for a start dont by a brand new one.....loads of demonstrators about and that will save you the cost of a motorcycle or caravan to start with .
I hate to knock landrovers but I would never buy a new one. you need to wait till the beta version arrives and all the bugs have been ironed out, about on par with Microsoft. Landrover after sales support is worse than hopeless at the best of times and if you read the comments in here I am sure you have picked that up for yourself by now.

Be practical By a bloody good Discovery 2. put a few grand into the bank to have it overhauled in 5 years time and save a lot of pain and agro and money.
Unless you need the ego trip of a new reg plate. Hmmm? anyway that is what I would do because I hate to waste money .

Hello

Well said Radicalrabbit !!!!!:D

Im in the market for another Discovery~ However i would'nt even think of buying the series 3 until its been out for a while.

With a bit of look in the next 2 year's Land Rover might have the wisdom to kit them out with that new Tdv8 diesel motor from the new Range Rover !!!!!!:p

Now that would be a nice Disco to own !!!!!!!:D
