Anyone got a comprehensive list of tools used for most Land rover jobs?

I went to fill up the axles yesterday, i need a square socket to undo the nut, i've not got one, also the large nut on the front of the timing cover ( pulley ), again looks like a 38mm ( imperial size is correct one ofc)

I'm sure there's other odd bits that require a specific tool, does someone sell a decent tool kit or has a list of most used items on a Landy?
 
I'll probably get flamed for this but....

The 150 piece Halfords set plus their breaking bar is not a bad start. They do do some large sockets as well, so you can get those on an 'as needed basis'.
 
To undo the filler nut I put muy 1/2 inch socket driver into it. Use it without a socket. But regarding the tools I am new to land rovers but generaly use a socket set up to 32mm and a hammer. You also need a good selection of pliers and screw drivers and some circlip removal pliers. You then add to your tool range as required for the jobs. Oops nearly forgot the torque wrench.
 
the diff filler can be removed and tightened using the drive for 1/2" socket. as for tool kit. how big a toolbox do you have lol
 
I got bits n bobs, small socket set ( metric ), few spanners n such, screw drivers all over the place and most tools to build, plumb, eletric fit a house ( i'm a builder in case you didn't realise ).

A mate has a shiny new tool chest ( on wheels, insurance replacement ) which he wont let any fooker use ( even himself ) so i have to bribe him to borrow anything and atm he's away.

I'm pretty savy when it comes to mechanical stuff etc, but would like a good list or a specific tool set for the Landy overall.

Just remember you get what you pay for. Not saying the cheap tools are crap but it might be worth paying that little bit more to get tools that will last.
 
especially ratchets. there is nothing more frustrating and painful than having a ratchet fail when you're really giving it the beans, which results in smashing your fingers on something solid / pointy.

avoid cheap ratchets.
 
Hammer and Gaffa Tape! If it should move and doesnt hit it with the hammer, if it moves and shouldn`t use gaffa tape!!
 
I agree with andy, Halfords professional stuff is good, I have one of their big kits behind my seat in the landy which everyone seems to borrow when we are out. I also have a cheapo sunday market set of spanners 10mm to 32mm for hitting with the big hammer you will also need:D Ooh and a workshop full of gear that I've been collecting since i was a boy.
 
Halfords Professional Kit (lifetime guarantee I believe) and a ferking big hammer!

And the aforementioned roll of Duct Tape.

Not that I need any of it - but my Butler does you understand....

They also do rebuild kits for the ratchets as well.

I would suggest getting a 3/8 breaking bar as well......while I think about it.

A complete what to get tool kit list would be a good sticky for new readers actually as I'm tool shopping still at the moment.
 
Breaker bar, length of scaffold pole, big hammer, short crowbar, selection of chisels and punches, angle grinder and a selection of metric/imperial (depending on landy) sockets and spanners. And buy all the bits you might need before starting any job!

It actually depends upon what Land Rover you have and to be honest, mine has been built up over 20 years and is used for all manner of things from ride on mower, euroboxes and tractors.....as well as Land Rovers obviously.

You really need to add to your tool box as you go, my suggestion regarding the Halfords kit will get you well on the way with respect to general maintenance.

I think between my dad and myself we have most of those apart from an angle grinder and a breaker bar. I will try and get the Halfords tools this weekend as its on offer!
