Has anbody had any experience of these tyres. :confused:

They seem to be the only All Terrain tyre available in 255/55/18.

What are they like i.e Road Noise, Performance on road and off etc.

I am thinking on putting them on my V8 Series 2 Disco.

Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

I have a set on my new Disco 3. Only done 1,000 miles. Quiet on road. I have not pushed them on a slippery road surface yet (need a quiet frosty morning on an empty supermarket car park!!) but 300 miles trip in filthy wet conditions with 70mph cross winds and horizontal rain was no problem and grip appeared to be OK. Done some steep muddy fields and waded one river (with 4 passengers + dogs, so well loaded!!) all with no problems. Verdict: so far, so good.

Anyone else used these yet, I have a set on order, just want to know if I am making the right decision.

I haven't tried them personally but there is a review in the December issue of LRE, albeit fitted to a disco 1. They do look to be a good tyre. You are quite right in that they are the only all terrain tyre in that size and unfortunately came out to late for me - I fitted RR3 Vogue 19" alloys and michelin AT tyres some time ago (got a good deal on my old
comets though!)

Supposed to be getting them fitted at lunchtime so I will let you all know how I get on.

I too am looking to stick a set of these on my disco, so i will watch the post with a great deal of interest. It appears the only option currently available.
looked at cooper stt's in 275/65/18 how ever these will require a reasonable amount of work (eg rear wheel carrier etc) as they are almost 3 inches bigger in diameter.

Right had these on for a couple of weeks now, very impressed with the on-road performance, tyres do not seem any louder then the standard Wranglers I had on before, I have not "pushed" them round corners but grip levels do seem good.

Off-Road, not done too much, one slippery grass valley took some negotiating but did make it, the one thing I do notice is that in the mud I had much better steering than before, obviously the extra grip was helping there.

I will let you know more in the future.

what about bf goodrich AT's or MT's there good on and off-road, or do you want massive ones?

Do you have a picture you can post on how they look on your Discovery. I just want to compare them with the Wrangler on my Discovery. I too am considering getting the AT2.

so you buy your tyres dependant on how they look ?

would you not be better off with a freelander ?
 
Not really, a Discovery is what I need!

I just want to get a right balance between their on/off-road capability and obviously cosmetic looks. Instead of getting tyres that look out of proportion for on-road use.
 
got these on our L200s at work they're ok in the mud(not ideal but mt's are expensive)can be alittle slippy on the road in the wet but then we coat the roads round us with clay!

Exactly the same situation - taking delivery (next week) of a '53 Discovery ES with the big wheels - need to tow across muddy fields - with the current tyres, it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, so need something better.

Very grateful for the comments in this thread - helped me make an informed choice. This is first post (newbie) & hope that I can give same kind of help in some way in due course...

I was so impressed with the General AT²'s on my wife's Disco that I bought some more mine !!!

And they look nice too !!!!!!:drum:
 
Hi,

Sold that Disco quite some time back, so haven't got any pics. I then bought a 53 Plate TD5 Xs which I bought an additional set of 16" Rims and put a set of GG AT2's on those and kept the 18" wilth road tyres for the summer.

The 16" Rims made the Disco a bit more comfortable on the road as the sidewalls were a bit deeper, I put 245/70/16's on them. Roadholding wasn't quite what it was with the 18" but still not bad.

Off Road then they're not going to get you places a set of Mud's will but they are definetly a lot better than road tyres. Don't think there's much between them and the BFG's they are a bit cheaper but the BFG's will probably last longer.
 
Changed my 18" Wranglers for a set of 16" Grabber AT2's. No difference in noise levels that I can notice but the 16" much more comfortable. Wranglers would not cope with snowy/ icey conditions at all whereas the AT2's plough through everything. Now wouldn't consider anything else - best tyres I have ever had
 
ive got these on my disco 2, very little road noise, use the car for getting in to do logging, not got stuck so far. i would have them again, and they are a good price, i think i paid around £80ea
 
I had them on my 300TDi and i have them on my TD5, been off road, lots of muddy tracks and driving long motorway distances with no problems at all. The frost has been pretty bad up my way and they are good on that too.
