Hi all,

I have a quick question about how the engine and gearbox respond during driving.

When I am going along the gearbox seems alittle slugish but does change up and down, when I take my foot off the revs drop to just above idle so there is no engine breaking, is this normal? Also at about 70 the car is quite jerky not at all a smooth ride as if the brakes are being applied for a split second or it is not fueling correctly again any help.

Sorry forgot to mention

4.6 HSE 2001. it is left hand drive I think a USA model.

I have had a recent major service including gearbox oil change, and complete EAS system change (except compressor) now very poor!!!!!
The car just does not seem to feel the same as it did before.

I presume this is an auto box ?

When you back off the throttle, does the gearbox shift down the gears or just appear to "disconnect" and let rpm fall to idle ?
 
If the gearbox oil has been changed, did they top it back up sufficiently?
Sounds as though the torque converter might not be gettin enough oil
 
Yes it is an Auto box, there does not appear to be a change of gear, but the revs do fall away not quite to idle to about 1200, it idles at about 900ish. the speed does fall of as well but not like it would under engine braking.

It may also be that they have reset the auto adaptives on the gearbox and it will take a few days normal driving to relearn your driving style
 
Thanks for the advice,

The garage does not give me a warm feeling inside when I speak to them, lets hope it is the adaptive thing. although I have no idea what that is, boy this car appears to be clever.

Is there a quick way to tell if the oil level is correct?

Not too hot on range rovers and perhaps one of the other guys will correct me but i think there will be an outo box oil level dipstick. The aut adaptive is just the electronic control box for the gearbox
 
auto-gearbox dipstick is yellow topped, on right hand side near bulkhead and cruise control throttle linkage
have vehicle parked on level ground,
start engine from cold,
slowly go through all gears,
leave engine running and gear in neutral, with handbrake on.
remove dipstick, wipe with non fluff rag, replace dipstick fully, remove again, the oil should be bright red and up to the max mark
 
not on a gaerbox heffers!You thinking of rfilling the sump after running(engine oil)
