Hi. Im new to all this Land Rover fun...

I'm looking to get my first some time soon (I hope!) I'm thinking of an Ex MoD/Gov 110 hard top so I can use it both for some lanes/off road but still use it for expeditions (nothing major, yet) ie to sleep in it and drag all my kit around (Mountaineering/Climbing etc) - but thats a whole other question and thinking process!

My first major question on my long and fruitful journey with LRs is this...

Can anyone please advise me or point me in the right direction to find out anything about the road tax on Ex MoD rovers...? (any LRs in general really)

I've tried google and direct.gov but that just shouts dates and numbers jibberish at me that I don't understand... so any tips or pointers would be greatfully recieved.

Cheers!! CC

Firstly welcome - you'll find loads of great info here - just make sure you search before asking as some of the guys on LZ can bite!

Most Landys are classed as light goods vehicles, so you'll be looking at £210 - £215 pa depending on date of first registration

If you're loaded and buying something registered after 2001 and classed differently, you'll be paying more!

I'm guessing this is the link you found:

Cheers. That was indeed the page I found, good old gov making things simple and straightforward...
So I take it that a a rule of thumb, anything pre 2001 goes down as a Light Goods Vehicle? And an Ex MoD vehicle would be taxed on its first reg date, not when it was registered in Civi-Street?

This is no major drama then as I am currently (well was before it went into storage) running a a small van for the same reasons as above, minus the off road bit! :) which comes in the same tax band. So it seems that it would be mainly just fuel cost that goes up...well on the to justifying this to myself ;)

Cheers all, off to a good start
