Hi
My gearbox is currently jumping out of 3rd on my series 2a. I've been offered a series 3 box. Is it a straight swap??

i'm fairly sure its a straight swop and i have heard it said that the series2a is a stronger box than the 111

not 100% but i know a 2a box will fit a series 3 and as slob says the 2a box is loads stronger ;)

Am i right in thinking that the series 3 box will have a syncromesh on all gears? It's just that the wife likes to try and drive it and she ain't too good at double declutching. That's half the reason i thought a series 3 box might be best!! :)

Yes, the series 3 box is fully synchromesh. The reason yours may be jumping out of gear may be summat as simple as a detent spring. Does it jump out of gear under load or on over run ?.

It's possible that the problem may only be a detent spring and ball by the sound of it. Not a big job. Your manual should tell you where to find it.

I've just had a good read of the Haynes manual, and it doesn't sound too bad a job. I'll let you know how I get on.

I know, but she paid for half so I have to make out like it hers as well, even though it ain't!!!!;)

Hi folks
I started having a bit of poke about ready to have a look at the detent springs tomorrow. Will i need to remove all of the floor to get at em?

It's not removing the floor that i mind the problem is that it's fully carpeted and the carpet is stuck down, so i'll have to take all that out first :(

carpets ??in a series?? she'll be putting curtains up next and getting some matching cushions
