Merry Xmas all nothing changes just had to pop out in car 4.6 1999 and got gear box fault and traction fault message tried starting again at home battery dead could it b lo battery charge that put up the fault cheers in advance

No joy with that plan drove 200 yards and it cut out getting all the fault messages now somebody close to me got 1 of these and he said it happened to him needed new alternater any ideas much appreciated

Sounds good to me. Check voltage at batt and alt to confirm. May just be knackered battery not taking/maintaining charge.

If you can start it check to see what voltage you have at 2000rpm with lights and every thing on should be about 14+ volts if not sounds like alternator proberly regulator pack on back.

Have tied to do the alternator test car started with battery charged put lights on to to try test alternator but it just cut out before I could get tester on it does this sound like new alternator needed

Hopefully that will cure prob or get a new alternator is there a separate fuse for the alternator

Once charged...check the standing voltage after 30 minutes off charge.....battery could easily be duff.....a battery test like a shunt or drop test would better indicate condition of the battery...

Most odd faults on the Range Rover brand can be traced to weak batteries or lack of Alternator charge.

Just done a test on car 13.8 v running turned all lights and heater on and it dropped to 11v checked all the connections and earth all tight

Alternator fecked or battery duff dragging Alternator output down......

More than likely duff alternator, charge should be above 14.4V engine running (debate exists on exact figure from 14.2 to 14.8V - but yours is way off and is wrong)
