If you give the guys (and girls) on here a bit more info why you think need new box someone might come up with an answer other than the petrol and match one.

where abouts are you, more info needed so peeps can give you better info.;);)

forgot to mention that i am in edinburgh scotland, my car is diesel and i have had a land rover technician look at it and confirm that it is my gear box...thanx for the replies....

What is the actual fault though? No drive? wont change up gears? Loud grating noise with no drive?

The boxes arent prone to being faulty, but its not unheard of. Usually they wont drive when they let go.

If it makes a loud grating noise, then its the front diff, needing the recall done

But some more info would have been nice :)

the problem is that when the car is put into drive there is nothing happening at all, just reving up and going nowhere.... i have had a land rover mechanic look at it and confirm that i need a new gearbox, i was looking for info on where to buy a recon one??

It sounds like either the difflock mechanism is stuck in neutral or the intermediate gear between gearbox and transfer box. Both are fairly easy fixes and dont necessarily need a new gearbox.

04? is that an L322? there have been several people on here with L322 gearbox failures recently, from memory I think it's the torque converter breaks up and that stuffs the gearbox.
