This is my first attempt on this site, so hopefully this works!

I have a 'K' reg Landrover Discovery with a tempermental gearbox (fairly new). Starting it up first thing the 2nd and 3rd gears crunch for about 15 miles then the gearbox is fine (once warmed up). I would like to solve this in case iam doing long term damage. Does anyone think this is a filter problem or sincro problem?:)

Try an oil change. Rebuild with new synchro rings. Take your pick.

When you say fairly new, do you mean the gearbox is new, or the problem is? Did anything happen prior to the problem starting? e.g. was the oil changed?

More info please. These sorts of threads often end with " well I never knew that dropping it from 20,000 feet would affect the suspension, sorry not to mention it":D

Thanks for your interest widget, sorry did i not mention the 20,000 ft bit!

I have only had the Discovery a few weeks, but i do know the previous owner well, so i'll investigate further. I was told the gearbox was fairly new and the problem too, but i will try the oil change first.

I'll let you know the results. Cheers

The synchros are known weak points even on brand new 'boxes. The gearbox runs on very light oil, just don't put gear oil in it yeah? This can cause rapid synchro wear.
