I've just been putting the selector rods back into my gearbox. With the top cover and detents not yet installed, they were moving back and forth quite freely but now I've finished refining the cover and detents I can no longer move them.

I can see that the gear stick will give me a whole lot more mechanical advantage, just wondering how stiff is normal without it fitted?

thanks, I was worried I'd screwed it up somehow. The manual's suggestion that the selectors should be fitted to the rod in the middle of the radial movement (37.16.34 - 12) is a bit rubbish, and doesn't really inform where they should go in the axial direction.

I wish I'd taken a photo of this before. The gates line up quite well in the longitudinal direction but reverse has a bit of a gap to 1st/2nd. But I was quite careful to get them clocked in the middle of the play.

I stuck the gear stick on and couldn't get 3rd/4th properly so took it apart again. I think the selector blocks were interfering slightly. It's all working nicely now and I managed to get it install again.

Only problem now is in my bag of fasteners there's one bolt with an L shaped bracket that I think replaces a nut and stud on the bell housing. Can't remember where it goes or what is for!

Interesting. When you say holds it, do you mean it's where it's stored if you're not using it for wading?

What does it plug, the bell housing?

I think I might be missing the plug, or maybe it's been left fitted
