I've done Rangies before and I'm not phazed by the task, just wanted to try and get as much information as possible from others with experience of the Disco. Its good because I was thinking RR and about to remove the seats etc....

Before you pull the box out, take the cover off at the left side of the rear of the gearbox, next to the handbrake drum. In there is a gear which connects the transfer box, if its gone then no drive but probably find that the mainshaft is fooked aswel. However if you want a quick yehaw fix you can actually weld the gear onto the shaft, if you are carefull it's ok but you will have a problem getting them seperated for an overhaul at a later date if something else in the box fooks up.

I got an email from that guy on ebay, he will be listing more of those gearbox lifts soon, very useful.

It was a bit cold today for gearbox playing but I did a couple of hours. Removed the gearbox output main gear, it was OK. Can feel nothing through the gearbox. Ive got the exhaust and props off ready to drop the transfer box next. At least that will make the gearbox managable to drop back and look inside the bell housing....
