Hi need your help people just been given a 1990 3.9 vogue which is in good condition :)

Everything works how it should except 3rd gear when going from 2nd to 3rd or 4th to 3rd it grauntches and is difficult to get in gear 2nd to 3rd ain't to bad if you take things really slow but 4th to 3rd really wont have it at all.
All gears change spot on with engine running sat stationary and no noises going into reverse clutch is biting where it should.

Would really like your feed back on this as I'm stumped

Easy fix sounds good never heard of synchro cones do you know where i can find more info on the gearbox? is it box out to fit ?

If you have never heard of syncro cones it is NOT an easy fix. It is an easy fix for me and it maybe for the beast. But if you have never stripped a box down and rebuilt it, it is NOT an easy fix. There are lots of mechanics out there who work on vehicles every day who would not be able to do it believe me.

Thats what I think too. Rebuilt F750 box for my race car lots of times, never as good as having a professional do it:(

sounds like I'll leave it well alone then. if i was to get a secondhand box do the v8's use the same one across the engine range?

i would say go for it,i do have a 4 speed manual here that would fit tho.lt85,adjusted ratios for the 3.9 to be nice.my cousin built it.:D

Make sure you have the right oil in the gear box, then learn to double de-clutch. Us oldies used to drive cars without synchromesh gearboxes no problem:p

just tried the old style double de clutching didn't make any sort of difference think i'll have to check the oil after the snow has stopped
