Hi guys, been a while.

As mentioned a while a go I'm having a problem with my gearbox. I've checked clutch, Selectors including springs and balls. All seems ok.

I can't select 3rd and 4th. 1st, 2nd and 3rd are okay. Anyone got any ideas what could be causing 3rd and 4th to jam solidly. I've got a Fairey Overdrive as well. Could that be causing the problem?

Any pointers would be welcome.

Cheers

Could be a loose mainshaft nut allowing the mainshaft to move or an issue with the synchro hub.

If you take the too gearbox cover out you can see the selector mechanism, could give you a better idea whats wrong

Not likely to be overdrive, 3/4th syncro worn, springs missing, only real way to find out is to look in there.A change of oil may help in the short term.

I lost 3rd and 4th in mine (also a straight 6) for about 10 minutes a while ago, when I changed the oil I found one of the synchro springs in the catch pan in two pieces, one of which had two deep gouges out of it where I guess It got caught in the teeth of the gears?

As mentioned above it is most likley to be broken springs in the 3rd 4th syncro, if it has been forced into gear the syncro might be twisted.
It is a straight forward job to remove the bell housing and the syncro and fit new springs, won't cost much either if you do it yourself.
A pic of a 3rd 4th syncro, you can just see the ends of the springs.

I would just slide a new symchro unit on there instead of faffing with springs. All the ones ive seen in the geaboxes ive stripped have had badly worn teeth
