Just wondering how big a job this is, please? 2001 TD4 manual. When I was doing the oil change the other day, I noticed a bit of an oil leak from the left hand end of the gearbox, where the driveshaft plugs in. There is a small amount of up-and-down play in the bearing, if I push the inner CV joint housing up and down, but no more than on a lot of front wheel drive cars that I've worked on.

Oil seal is simple. Unbolt hub from strut and pull driveshaft out of gearbox by pulling hub outwards. No need to undo hub nut or bottom ball joint. Prise out old seal and push new in with suitable socket.

Never done a bearing!!

As above - oil seal is fairly straight forward. Faulty wheel bearings can make a lot of noise.
