Having tried unsuccessfully to remove the gearbox oil filler plug, I am desperate to get the oil changed in the gearbox. Latest idea is to remove 4 bolts round the gear selector and pour the oil in that way. Question, if I remove the selector are any springs going to jump out at me or is it difficult to refit?

it's not difficult to refit just just select 4'th and keep the lever there under pressure untill you tighten back the bias plate... that's important...and as you dont see the level use only 2.3 litres of oil as in the capacity list

did you use heat on that filler plug?

Hi SF thanks for the reply. Did try taking out the 4 bolts with the gear lever but only gave access to the selector shaft. No way through to gearbox. Think your pic is the Lt 777 though, mine is the R380 ie the transfer lever is behind the gear lever nearest cubby box.
Have not tried heat yet but it will have to wait another two weeks until I am home again and have another go.

Can you have friends or family soak the filler plug with some form of "nut blaster" until you return? Also a long pipe or large box end spanner on the end of a ratchet could help as a breaker bar.

Mine was a bear to remove, until I added the spanner to the ratchet for more leverage. Also applied liberal amounts of PB Blaster.
