Hi been looking on the forum for a while but just come across a little problem. Im wanting to change the gearbox oil in the manual box and looking on here has me baffled to the filler plug and the drain plug.

Im trying to find the plug on the side of the box as iv seen on the fourm and net but cant see one anywhere. but was thinking the plug i have taken out in the pic will be the filler and the other square socket will be the drain is this right.

thanks for the reply i dont seem to have any other plugs ect.... also what are these 2 plugs for? also gears are nochy when cold and there is no oil in these 2 plugs. any ideas?
 
Presume you mean the drain plug and filler plug.

Think the title of each speaks for itself!

When the filler plug is removed, to allow the gearbox to be filled, when a small trickle of the correct fluid seeps out, I believe the gearbox is filled to capacity.

Also believe that you need to use the correct spec of gearbox oil or that could lead to problems.

The drain plug should be removed to drain the old oil out.
 
I was looking at doing mine but having no where to climb under clean and dry.Then pumping the oil in i got a 4x4 centre to do it £60 i think.Saved me the bother
 
all done thanks, my picture is the bell housing gearbox was further back.
getting oil in is deffinatly not easy, had use of a oil pump but took time and messy.
Any one know what colour the oil should be to come out, iv just changed 2 gearboxs, one had cream oil in and the other mostly black?
 
Mine comes out red as its ATF.

Cream coloured oil suggests water has emulsified in the oil - possibly from deep wading.
Black suggests oil is full of ****e - posiibly because it has not been changed for a million years.
