Thanks for all your help and advice

Was going to change the gearbox oil and transfer box oil but for the cost of £22 at my local really good garage it's not even worth me getting my tools out. that's labour only I'm supplying the oils. Got it booked in next week. Want to do this anyhow so will see if any change.

The Noise is only present when the clutch is pressed but only when a gear selected. Would the release bearing make that noise when you just press the clutch down? If it does then may not be that, as only starts noise when I select gear.

with gear box in neutral even with clutch fully pressed gears will be rotating from the drag of the clutch in gear they cant ,is there any contamination in the box oil

oil changes next week, will see if makes a difference.
drove today for a good few miles and noise goes after driving for about half hour or less. when cold mainly, or low oil? won't rule out until oil change.

Had the gearbox oil changed today at the landy garage, spoke to the old boy who's worked on lands for many years, he said that there is nothing to worry about and that its something most have?? his answer was basically dust/dirt can get on the duel mass flywheel giving that noise and that this is just normal noise from this?? he said I was being a bit paranoid just drive it and don't worry:D was reassuring to hear that. Just wanted to be sure I suppose.

thanks all for your help and input;)

Its not about being paranoid, but being alert and responsible.

You would not believe how many BMWs came to my shop by tow trucks all because the owners ignored noise, three sets of warning lights, smells, check engine lights etc., costing thousands in repairs.

I just bought another Landy, was told that it had a new 130 clutch in it. Started it and it was making noise, thinking it was the lay shaft noise I decided to test drive it, 20 seconds after the noise is gone and never came back.

I used Red line products for diffs and gearboxes in BMW and amazed at the difference in shifting and longevity. In cold places like some parts in Canada, it made a huge difference, shifted like butter in -35 deg C on start up.

Not sure how the landy boxes would handle it, I think it should be the same, only issue is, its not available on this hard to get items island.

Its good to be observant especially when its older vehicles.
